W języku angielskim istnieje stosunkowo dużo czasów, których podstawą są trzy czasy gramatyczne (przeszły, teraźniejszy, przyszły)

Niekiedy do czasów przyszłych zalicza się tzw. konstrukcję wyrażającą „bliską przyszłość” - be going to.
